ONW Feature Story Experience
When I first started the first ONW Feature Story I was slated to be on schedule and even get my video done early. As I had just finished up my interviews I quickly ran into problems. My first interview had no sound causing me to have to catch Nick on a day he was at school and could sit down with me to complete an interview. Once I had completed the interview for the second time, this time with sound, I had to get B-roll footage but when one thing goes wrong all of the sudden everything decides to stop working. I had to film the B-roll footage on my phone, this of course didn't end up working as my footage wasn't there on my phone when I went to import the B-roll. My voiceovers were muddled, so I had to re-record them, which wasn't a big deal but just another problem to my seemingly endless list of problems.
I eventually finished the ONW Feature Story video and so I was ready to move onto the written portion of the Feature Story. Overall, I thought my written feature story was solid, I had all of the formatting correct, and the main backbone of the video in the written portion of the feature story. I enjoyed making the video more, even though finishing it was painful and time consuming, because I felt as if I could see my progress more than just writing out the feature story. The video took more time obviously, due to shooting, editing, completing voice overs, and rendering the completed product, but I had a more fun time making the video compared to the written portion.

Written Feature Story
One ONW basketball player and one ONW basketball hopeful.
Both working in the off season to hone in their skills and perfect them, for
the chance to make the basketball team once more. Nick Johnson and Jack Clayton
are both trying out for the ONW basketball team, and in order to see what it
takes to be an ONW basketball player I interviewed both of them.
I sat down with Nick Johnson to ask
him about his past basketball experiences and how he was preparing for tryouts
this year.
“I’ve been playing basketball ever
since I was 5 years old. I really got into it after I saw my older brother
playing, and have been in love with the sport ever since,” Johnson said.
Nick played basketball last year
for the ONW freshman basketball team, hoping to make the C team and maybe even
have a chance for JV.
“I play for a club team outside of
school basketball when that’s not going on. I like keeping my skills sharp, so
four times a week I will go to the gym to workout and shoot,” he said.
He also explains the kinds of
things he does for the school team before the season starts.
“Before the season starts, twice a
week we will have open gym and morning conditioning for the school team. Coach
really just wants to get a good look at the incoming talent to see how we’re
progressing,” Johnson said.
Jack Clayton is also an ONW hopeful
for the basketball team so I also sat down with him to see what he does in the
off season and his past experiences with basketball.
“I started playing back when I was
in kindergarten maybe first grade. I’ve recently been playing in the GABL rec
leagues scoring like 30 points a game,” Clayton said.
He explains how he may not go out
for the team because he doesn’t want to “embarrass anyone” because he is “just
that good”.
