ONW Feature Story #2

    The concept for my second feature story was to interview and see what being a kindergarten teacher was really like. I would do this by taping some classroom functions at Scarborough Elementary School. My narrative lead explained what Stephanie does at Scarborough, how long she has taught, and why she got into teaching. It really helped set up my video and transition from each interview.
    I interviewed Scarborough Elementary teacher Stephanie Herl and what her job entails. My second interview source was her husband E.G. Herl. He explains what he does to support her in her job and daily life. They complimented each other because E.G. goes into the after hour support for her job and some of the hardships she has within teaching kindergarten.
    When I originally shot my video it was planned to be a feature story about two girls on the Olathe East Drill Team. This was very difficult of course because both the girls go to different schools and have very busy schedules. I last minute got footage of some recording I did during the summer and interviewed both Stephanie and E.G. in order to get my video done late but completed. Easy to say that my recording experience was difficult at the least.
    Because I turned my video in late I have not yet received feedback from my teacher or peers but look forward to getting some in the future to better know how to improve my video skills. Overall, this video experience was successful at the very end but I had to trudge through the entire process of editing because I had no footage but B-roll to edit. I hope to have much more success with the final project of the semester because we are in groups and can work together.

Falcon's Westside Works Project 9/15

The reporter is for NBC news, and it is clear that they are very experienced in creating quality feature stories. She starts off the story by telling the viewer what they are watching the video about and then showing video of the area and the new stadium. She gets multiple interviews with people who have been affected by the project, as well as the Falcon's owner. The video describes the effects of the new stadium and the new jobs created by it. There are very few issues with this video. It is produced very well and the footage is of high quality as well. One potential downside is that the reporter only interviews people who have been positively effected by the stadium. There may not be any people who have been negatively effected so that could be a reason for only interviewing the positive people.
