Christmas Website

Image
For my final project in Web Design for the first semester I created a Christmas Website. This website explains the traditions, songs, behaviors, foods, and much more about Christmas and the holiday season. Using all of the skills learned this semester this website was a final reflection on all of those skills, using them to my advantage to create a fully functioning, six page website.       This website was very easy to accomplish once we created our format website that we also used for the Real or Hoax project. By changing the color schemes, content, and moving some html code around to reformat the sidebar, I was able to easily finish this website in no time. Most of my content was gathered from other websites as I wanted the most accurate information about the holiday, making sure to link them in the bottom of each page. To find my functioning website click HERE .

Video Production Final

Semester Projects ONW: 1 in 2000       This project was one of the first projects we did in Exploring Video. The subject was to capture a story about one of the many students at ONW. I completed this project very easily and quickly, due to the fact that we didn't need any B-roll for this video and was instead a straight interview with the interviewee. I faced little to no challenges with this video except for a few technical difficulties with the SD cards that we later fixed. As this was one of my earlier videos, I came into the video process with almost no knowledge of how to operate the camera or Adobe Premiere. With that I learned how to film and edit my videos. I was given feedback such as: cut out the :"bloopers" at the end of a professional video, move the camera so the subject of the video isn't looking directly into the camera, and fixing jump cuts. We moved on instead of re-editing these videos because they were some of the f...

ONW Feature Story #2

Image
The concept for my second feature story was to interview and see what being a kindergarten teacher was really like. I would do this by taping some classroom functions at Scarborough Elementary School. My narrative lead explained what Stephanie does at Scarborough, how long she has taught, and why she got into teaching. It really helped set up my video and transition from each interview.     I interviewed Scarborough Elementary teacher Stephanie Herl and what her job entails. My second interview source was her husband E.G. Herl. He explains what he does to support her in her job and daily life. They complimented each other because E.G. goes into the after hour support for her job and some of the hardships she has within teaching kindergarten.     When I originally shot my video it was planned to be a feature story about two girls on the Olathe East Drill Team. This was very difficult of course because both the girls go to different schools and have ver...

Making A Good Feature Story

What is a Feature Story?      A feature story can be about anyone or anything. It can be about one woman wearing 26 throughout the duration of a marathon, a couple purchasing and renovating a historic old post office, or even about a high school student and her aspirations of becoming a professional golfer. These feature stories differ from news because they take time to go in depth about the subject instead of rushing through the facts as news stories do. They are written at a more leisurely pace than news stories. The feature story focuses more on the human element than news stories do, going in depth about about the people rather than the events.      When making a good feature story, you want to have plenty of B-roll footage, a good crisp voice over with a leading narrative, as well as the interview footage and audio. As shown above Lina has created a feature story that has a great majority of B-roll with a narrative layered over. The actual fe...

ONW Feature Story Experience

Image
When I first started the first ONW Feature Story I was slated to be on schedule and even get my video done early. As I had just finished up my interviews I quickly ran into problems. My first interview had no sound causing me to have to catch Nick on a day he was at school and could sit down with me to complete an interview. Once I had completed the interview for the second time, this time with sound, I had to get B-roll footage but when one thing goes wrong all of the sudden everything decides to stop working. I had to film the B-roll footage on my phone, this of course didn't end up working as my footage wasn't there on my phone when I went to import the B-roll. My voiceovers were muddled, so I had to re-record them, which wasn't a big deal but just another problem to my seemingly endless list of problems.     I eventually finished the ONW Feature Story video and so I was ready to move onto the written portion of the Feature Story. Overall, I thought my writt...

This was the very first project using Dreamweaver this year. To be honest, I had a huge problem figuring out how to use the new CSS format, but thanks to my man Parker Riese I got the problem all sorted out. We used the float left css to get the words next to picture and special divs to get the curves around the edges of the heading. Overall the project was very easy as soon as I got the new CSS rules figured out and hopefully created a very appealing webpage.

ONW 1 in 2000

For my ONW: 1 in 2000 video I had the pleasure to interview Isaiah Pickens. I was able to talk to him about what he did over the summer and his experiences with his trip to Minnesota. He went with about 40 other people to help out the community but also get to have fun with other excursions. The trip also happened around the time where racial tension was high because of police brutality towards a black man. When I initially wrote my voiceover, it was very short, but when I saw my other classmates writing whole paragraphs I decided to jump on the bandwagon and write more. When I was finished I ended up with about a 3-4 sentence masterpiece of a voiceover that fit the outline of his experience into about 15 seconds.  When we were shooting we had some technical difficulties. Whether it was our SD card not working, the tripod missing, or even forgetting to press record on the camera, I'd say it was a very interesting experience. We had a really good time filming the video and be...

Text Mate Web Pages

Hexadecimal Color Sampler Page             When creating the hexadecimal color sampler we really focused on the div tags in order to create the shape and border of the colors. By figuring out the code of the colors using the rrggbb method we were able to create not only all of the colors on the rainbow but also the lighter, pastel colors of the rainbow.  Creating the colors was very easy, especially when you put them all in the div and set the div properties in the style. I could have made a background for the divs and the actual page but I felt the page looked better with a white background. Font Sampler Page       When creating the font sampler page I used much of the same coding knowledge I used for the color sampler but with font types. Because most of the code used the same sentence, all I had to do was adjust the type of font I was using for each paragraph. I labeled the Serif Fonts and Sans-Serif fonts for ea...

Personal Project Review

Image
The assignment was created for Mr. Zuck to showcase good behavior around ONW. We demonstrated the appropriate way to check out a book in the library. We first created the story board in order to get the order of shots, we then set up the camera in various places for our multitude of shots, and once we had our shots we individually edited our videos. I learned how to use Adobe Premiere because I have never used it before and didn't know how to use it. We also learned how to manage our time in order to have time to edit and get our videos in on time. If I had more time I would have changed the moving camera shots to non moving camera shots. They didn't flow when the camera wasn't moving. I would have kept the rest the same, because I felt that the video was pretty solid otherwise. I will use the constructive criticism to help better improve my products in the future. I had an enjoyable time creating this video and had a great time collaborating with my partner...

Website Project Q3      For my last post of the year I have a screenshot from my Q3 website. I unfortunately lost the files for the website so I am posting this from the website. Hope you enjoy!
The Neuralizer                      For the semester 2 final project my team, MIB Swag, created a movie inspired Neuralizer product which grants back memory instead of taking it away. Coming up with the ideas for what the product would be used for and creating the web logos, banners, etc. We struggled for a while in the beginning when we were coming up with the ideas for the Neutralizer. Talk more in the final presentation the next time we do a group project. I wouldn't change anything about my project, I liked my team and my project. I have improved by having better knowledge of programs. I helped the project by acting in the commercial, the web banner for the website, and the main product and room for the animation.

For the house project I used Sketchup. I started with a regular box, pulled up the roof from the top of the box, and put the gutters on. I later added the windows, the door, and of course the car. I added the bushes using the online download options from Sketchup. Overall I enjoyed creating my own house with Sketchup.
Pet Peeves I always get really annoyed whenever Joel posts recipe ideas. He really only puts sandwich ideas on his blog. There isn't even any recipes, only ideas about potato chips and sandwiches. Whenever he posts I literally sigh. Go check it out:  Joel's Recipe Blog

For my first year at ONW and my first year in e9, I really enjoy it so far. I like all of the projects we have done, with each project getting progressively more complex and better looking. I am considering web design and film as my classes for e-Comm next year.

10WordsAnimation       This animation was made from a video timeline rather than a frame by frame animation. I typed in the words, added the background in, and started animating. These animations were definitely harder than my previous animations, because they weren't easily moved in the frames and then animated, but instead typed and then animated through a different format.
Image
For this animation I again used Adobe Photoshop. I made my base background purple with yellow lettering to contrast the purple. I created two faces, a happy and a scrunched face. I then positioned them in different frames and created the animation out those frames.

Squash and Stretch  For this bouncy ball animation I used Adobe Photoshop to create the original layers of the ball. I then created an animation using the many different layers I had created. By squashing the ball at the very bottom and stretching the ball as it goes down creates the feeling of a cartoon ball. Adjusting the time created a better more "cartoonish" feel. I learned that when creating the layers you must apply the background to all the layers and not just one.
